Nestled in the North York Moors National Park, this former farmhouse and post office had stood vacant for years before undergoing comprehensive restoration. The Grade II listed building required sensitive repair to return it to habitable condition while preserving its historic character. The approach balanced conservation with contemporary comfort. Traditional breathable techniques including hot lime plaster and limecrete floors with underfloor heating work in harmony with the original stone walls, creating warmth while respecting the building's historic fabric. At the heart of the project, a rare plank and muntin screen was carefully conserved in collaboration with specialist conservators Houghton's of York.
The farmhouse and adjacent converted Byre now offer guests an exceptional location in the heart of Farndale Nature Reserve, known locally as 'Daffodil Dale'. Available to book at Farndale Cottages.
