The Existing Dwelling
The first element of the existing house was built in the early 1960's and is evident on the 1968 Ordnance Survey plan. It is very typical of its time having a low pitch with sweeping eaves and was constructed in random rubblestone and render.
The first phase of building had been subsequently extended c.1980 with wings to the south west, north and a stone porch. The design of which is neither consistent with the original house nor itself.
The Planning Process
The sensitive location in the countryside presented a particularly challenging planning process and multiple applications were required in order to arrive at the built scheme.
Early design consideration had been given to working with the existing building on the site with an approval to extend the existing property, however, the fabric is flawed and despite looking at upgrades and significant work to the existing it would remain inefficient and compromise the potential of the site.
The Outcome
The layout and design evolved through a careful and considered design process with the clients to deliver a high-quality Queen Anne style traditional style house built around their bespoke requirements.
